The Princeton High School boys basketball team is preparing for a state semifinal showdown against perennial powerhouse Lakewood St. Edward on Saturday night at Wright State University's Nutter Center at 5:30 p.m.
In addition to the theatrics of the state tournament, Head Coach Bryan Wyant is also one win away from win No. 100 as head coach of the Vikings. Coach Wyant hopes that he has two wins left in him this season, culminating in what would be the school's first state title in boys basketball.
The Vikings got to Wright State this weekend by way of a thrilling regional final against Greater Miami Conference foe Oak Hills. Historically, the Highlanders play a slow game, resulting in low-scoring games. Princeton took advantage of that on the defensive side, only holding the Highlanders to 22 points while turning them over 18 times.
Kam Mercer led the scoring with 12 points for the Vikings, while A'mire Gill added 11 points. Mercer was named to the all-tournament team by the Cincinnati Enquirer for his 62 points and 21 rebounds so far in postseason play.
St. Edward is coming into the game with a 22-4 overall record after edging out Elyria 53-50. According to MaxPreps, St. Edward is ranked No. 7 in Ohio, regardless of division. Princeton ranks No. 2 in Ohio, regardless of division, behind GMC rival Lakota West, who lost in its regional final game. In Division I, St. Edward is No. 4 while Princeton remains at No. 2.
The winner of this game will advance to face the winner of the Pickerington Central and Hilliard Bradley game in the state championship game the following day, Sunday, March 22, 2026 at 3:15 PM at UD Arena.
