Lady Vikings Basketball Bounces Back with Big Road Win Over Mason 51-50

The Princeton Lady Vikings basketball team defeated the Mason Comets 51-50 on Wednesday, January 29th at Mason High School. The Lady Vikings improve to 15-4 overall, and 11-2 in the Greater Miami Conference. Princeton currently ranks second in the league standings behind Lakota West.

Princeton led 42-33 at the end of the third quarter, but a strong fourth quarter by Mason (17-9) brought the game within two points (49-47) with under one minute to play in the game.

After a defensive foul by Princeton, Mason's Margo Mattes made both free throws to even up the score with 30 seconds. Mattes led all scorers with 15 points.

Princeton's Willow White made a nice drive to the basket on the next possession, followed up by a tremendous put-back effort on the offensive glass by Diawna Carter-Hartley. Kyla Oldacre secured her 8th offensive rebound after the miss shot by Carter-Hartley and scored two points plus the foul.

Oldacre finished the game with 14 points, 11 rebounds, and 4 blocks.

Trailing 51-49, the Comets forced a foul on the Lady Vikings to send Mason to the free-throw line with a chance to tie the game. The Comets made 1-of-2, but came up with a big offensive rebound with 11 seconds remaining on the game clock. Mason looked to drive in the paint, but Oldacre was there for a huge block to deny the Comets the lead.

Princeton finished the game shooting 21-of-53 from the floor.

Ashley Davis scored 14 points and LaSonja Hill added 11 points and 5 steals.

The Lady Vikings outrebounded the Comets 35-27, and forced 17 turnovers on defense.

Princeton returns to Viking Arena on Saturday, February 1st as they host the Colerain Cardinals at 1:45 PM. Prior to the game, Princeton will celebrate its' senior class.
